Regina Todorenko, the well-known Ukrainian-Russian pop-singer and television presenter, recently opened up about her decision not to send her sons, Mikhail and Miroslav, to kindergarten.
Together with her husband, Vlad Topalov, they have chosen a different path for their children’s early education after encountering challenges with their eldest son’s kindergarten experience.
Their eldest son, Mikhail, initially attended kindergarten for about a year. Despite the smooth adaptation process, small class sizes, and attentive care, Mikhail experienced significant distress. “Almost every morning we had real tantrums when getting ready,” Todorenko shared on her Telegram channel. Even after switching kindergartens, the situation did not improve.
After consulting with a psychologist, the family decided to forgo kindergarten to prevent stress from negatively impacting Mikhail’s development. Todorenko emphasized that their decision doesn’t mean their children lack social interaction. “Misha communicates a lot with friends on playgrounds, in clubs, and at various events,” she explained.
Todorenko highlighted several studies indicating that children who do not attend kindergarten but engage in active peer communication do not suffer from a lack of socialization. These children develop just as well as their peers who attend formal early education settings.
