American singer Miley Cyrus along with her co-writers Gregory Hein and Michael Pollack, is facing a lawsuit over song theft. The case was filed last Monday in Los Angeles, according to U.S. media outlet Rolling Stone.
Miley is accused of using parts of Bruno Mars’ 2013 hit song “When I Was Your Man” in her own song “Flowers.” The lawsuit was brought by a company called Tempo Music Investments, which holds partial rights to “When I Was Your Man.”
U.S. media Variety reached out to Miley Cyrus for comment, but they did not receive a response.
If the allegations are proven true Miley could face a hefty fine. “Flowers,” released on January 12, 2023, is one of Miley’s most popular songs. Track from her album Endless Summer Vacation, has been streamed more than 2.7 billion times on music platforms.
This year Miley won Grammy Awards for Record of the Year and Best Pop Solo Performance for the song.
