Kate Middleton has taken her first step back into royal duties after completing cancer treatment. On September 9, 2024, she shared the joyful news that her chemotherapy had ended, expressing the relief of reaching this milestone.
Over the past nine months, the royal family faced many challenges but Prince William and Kate worked through them together. Speaking candidly, the Princess of Wales said, “The road to recovery is difficult, scary, and unpredictable for everyone, especially for those who are close to you.”
The day after her announcement, Kate held her first official meeting at Windsor Castle since December 2023. Meeting focused on early childhood issues and was attended by members of Prince William‘s Royal Foundation. Despite the significance of the event, palace did not release any photographs from the private meeting.
Kate has long passionate about early childhood development and supporting parents a cause she has championed throughout her royal work. Her last such meeting took place before she paused her duties for treatment.
While Kate has finished chemotherapy, she has acknowledged that her recovery journey continues. In a recent statement, she shared, “Although I have completed chemotherapy, my road to healing and full recovery is long, and I must continue to take each day as it comes. However, I am looking forward to returning to work and participating in public events when I am able.”
So far in 2024, Kate has only been seen at two major public events—Trooping the Colour and the Wimbledon final. The palace has indicated that she will ease back into her role taking on light duties and making limited public appearances for the rest of the year. In November, it’s expected she will join the royal family at the Cenotaph for Remembrance Sunday.
